nope, almost bought that gen Explorer when I ditched my 04 Chevy Blazer, but was looking at a V6 Eddie Bauer, frankly it wasn't an upgrade from my Blazer and the MPG was worse, as you could imagine the V8 was EVEN worse.
I was about to take a job that was going to be a 62 mile commute, so it just didn't work out. That being said- It was still a nice truck.

As far as Explorer/Exploders go, those are some of the best and most well-rounded ones. I like them.

Transmissions in those have reliability issues.

Just the 6-speed they used with the V8 or the 5-speed they used with the V6 as well?

Probably both, one of them was worse. Don't remember which. I personally don't want one of these so I didn't remember. Check with the all knowing Google.

Which year was this? My dad has a '04 Mountaineer with AWD and the 4.6. Has nearly 120,000 on the clock and the only major issues have come from the wheel bearings and CV joints and stuff being replaced because of the lovely NY winter salts. Other than that, if this has the split rear door and the window surrounding is plastic and will crack. Can't replace that anymore. If the rear wiper motor goes it's quite easy to replace. I know this because we just replaced it the other day. Anyway good luck.

The 2004 V8 Mountaineer my dad has gets like 14-16 highway. So yeah not exactly sipping fuel.

Yeah, and I was in a V6 Explorer 4x4 that said it could pull of 16 by the ratings. My Blazer did that and the V6 in the Blazer had more power, sure as hell got moving quicker.
The only upgrade I would have gotten was less miles. It had less features than my Blazer which was 3 years older than it, add in the less power and I just couldn't do it.

My friends mom had a regular V8 Explorer of that generation. The interior was the most boring interior I have ever sat in. It was decently quick, but it was not the Trailblazer I drove at the time.

This is the 2006-2010 model which had the single piece tailgate and the 292 HP V8 pulled from the 2005-2010 Mustang

Ah, well I don't know a lot about that gen because all of my experience has been with the 2004.
